Birdbrain
by Lillian White
Can a chicken’s story help us understand our own?
A small-town farm girl uncovers the story of humankind’s oldest companions, and reflects on her travels between South America and South Carolina. Dreamt up on her parents’ chicken farm and developed in Peru, this unique performance is rooted in bilingual, multicultural collaboration.
Lillian White
Drawing on her experience growing up on a rural chicken farm, an actress reflects on the parallels between this animal and the human societies it has accompanied for thousands of years. Asking, "What is a birdbrain?", she discovers a series of personal and historial stories that illuminate her own journey from the country to the city. Through physical theatre, visual theatre, storytelling and object work, the play examines themes of migration, memory, cultural encounter, and social relations with the earth.
