DREAMS (beyond the narrowplace)

by Nerissa Tunnessen

DREAMS (beyond the narrowplace) is a solo dance theater work by non-binary dancer/choreographer Nerissa Tunnessen. It explores the relationship between community and communal support systems to feelings of isolation, underpinned by connections to the natural world. Created in a residency in Kefalonia, Greece at the Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture, the work centers around an interview with artist and community pillar Sophie Kagadis, who discusses intergenerational community education and caretaking, her mentors, gatherings in celebration of life, and expansive love. The movement works somewhat in opposition to Sophie’s voice and sentiment, expressing and exploring personal feelings of isolation and yearning for community and inclusion within the confines of gendered expectations and roles.

where’s your head at

by Megan Bascom

What distracts you? What sticks in your head? How do you dump the excess contents swirling around your brain? "Where's Your Head At" is a project straddling the realities of distraction and presence in today's fast-paced world and also questions the constant necessity of focus for the sake of productivity.

Nerissa Tunnessen

(they/them) is a transmasc Jewish dyke and dancer/choreographer/educator from Washington D.C., currently residing in Philadelphia, PA. A graduate of Vassar College with a BA in history, Nerissa is passionate about connecting historical research and art to work in a space of understanding communal emotion and the human experience. Their recent work has explored topics of historical and present-day women’s spirituality, gender identity, sexuality, mourning, community building, and the complexities of empowerment. Nerissa is influenced by their natural surroundings and is fascinated with revolutionary eroticism and the practice of communal love. A playful being, Nerissa likes to intermingle tenderness with whimsy and tries to not take themselves too seriously. You can generally find them engaging in plenty of silly little wiggles and enjoying time upside down.
